Clean (dairy free) Hot Cocoa
Today we made hot cocoa that this momma can feel good about! My children loved it and I felt good giving it to them. It’s also dairy free!
My hot cocoa is simply made with 3 ingredients:
- coconut milk (this kind is in the BPA free can and has no guar gum added)
- cacao powder
- raw honey
This “recipe” couldn’t be easier.
1. I emptied a can of Trader Joes Light Coconut Milk into a small pot (I like full fat better but this stuff from Trader Joes doesn’t have all the additives some brands do so I like it). I put the pot on the stove at medium heat.
2. I then added 3-4 spoons full of cacao powder and stirred until the milk turned “chocolaty”.
3. I then took it off the burner and added a TBS or 2 of raw honey. You can add as much or as little as you like to sweeten to your preferred taste.
Both kids loved it and my daughter even added water to her cup when she had finished hers in an attempt to “make more”. It was a great tummy warming treat on this super cold high of -16 Minnesota winter day! Yum!
I have to try this! But I think I’ll try to use fresh raw milk and some cream instead. Let’s see if it works. 🙂
I bet raw milk would work great for this as well. My daughter has issues with too much dairy so we went with the coconut milk today. 🙂
