My Favorite Non Toxic Shampoos, Conditioners, Lotions and Soap

In the past I’ve had friends ask me what shampoo and conditioner I prefer and I couldn’t give an answer. For years I’ve been searching for a truly non toxic shampoo and conditioner that I actually like. I’ve either found hair products that work wonderfully but include ingredients that are toxic and harmful or I’ve found cleaner non toxic products that work horribly. Another problem I have found is “green washed” products. Green washed products claim to be non toxic but are not as wonderful as they claim to be. They may even have the word organic on the label because some of the ingredients are in fact organic. However, many of the other ingredients are far from non toxic or may even be known carcinogens.

One of my favorite websites is EWG’s Skin Deep Database. EWG’s Skin Deep is an online safety guide for cosmetics and personal care products to help people find safer products, with fewer ingredients that are hazardous or that haven’t been thoroughly tested. The database provides easy-to-navigate safety ratings of thousands of personal care products.

I searched the EWGs database for hair and body products with the best possible ratings. After testing several I found my favorites!

Here they are! My favorite truly non toxic shampoos, conditioners, lotions and soap.

My favorite shampoo is The Wonder Seed Hemp Shampoo

What I love about this shampoo is that you don’t need a lot to get a good lather. When I’ve had to try other non toxic shampoos I’ve needed to use a LOT to get it to suds up at all. I love how clean my hair feels when I use Wonder Seed. It has a light sent and leaves my hair feeling clean and soft. All their ingredients are animal cruelty free. Just a little bit of this goes a long way!

This same product makes a conditioner that I like and have used as well. It’s Wonder Seed Hemp Conditioner. While I liked this conditioner I found that it was pretty thick and I need a lot of it to cover my long hair entirely. It might be nicer for someone with shorter hair. I would have continued to use this conditioner if I had not found my all time favorite conditioner…

Update: Wonder Seed has been “sold out” of their shampoo for quite some time now (months and months). I contacted them and they said something along the lines of a supply issue with one of the ingredients. So, I have since switched to Beautycounter’s shampoo and I’m in love. You can find it here. I love that they have “refil bottles” that cost a little less than the original pump bottle. You can find the refil bottles here.

My favorite conditioner is Carina Organics Daily Light Conditioner. This conditioner comes in different scents. My personal favorites are citrus and grapefruit. I also buy the lavender for my daughter. I love that their products are not harsh and I can even use them on my kiddos. My daughter has very sensitive skin and she can use their products without any problems. Carina Organics Light Conditioner smells amazing and leaves my hair feeling silky and soft. Other non toxic conditioners I have tried have left my hair feeling brittle. I have long thin hair and this conditioner gives it a shine that other non toxic conditioners have failed to do.

Carina Organics also carries a shampoo that I like. They also carry unscented shampoo and conditioner for those with super sensitive skin or for those who don’t like any fragrance. But all their fragrances come from essential oils and fruit extracts rather than synthetic perfumes. I also LOVE their dangruff removal shampoo for my hubby and son.

Carina Organics Shampoo also doubles as a body wash. 

Carina Organics also carries a heavier deep treatment conditioner that I love as well! I use their deep treatment conditioner about once a week.

Carina Organics also carries my favorite body lotion. It’s non toxic and gentle on skin which I need for my daughter’s super sensitive skin. My daughter gets these super red itchy rashes on her arms opposite her elbows. We haven’t been able to figure out what’s causing them. However, when we put Carina Organics lotion on the rash it sooths the rash and lessens it quite a bit. I love that it comes with a little pump so she can easily get the lotion whenever she needs to without over doing it. We’ve used coconut oil on her rash before but she didn’t like the oily feeling. I love how soft this lotion is without any oily residue.

I get my favorite bar soap from Thrive Market. I use All-One Hemp Citrus Pure-Castile Bar Soap. I’m quite happy with this soap which has the best score you can get on EWGs website. It’s a nice mild soap that leaves me feeling super clean. You can use just the bar or one of those shower poofs to get some nice suds.

Another product Carina carries (but I have yet to try since my babies are no longer babies) is their baby shampoo and body wash. I can only imagine that this is a wonderful products since I’ve loved everything else that I’ve tried from this company.

So there you have it… my favorite truly non toxic shampoos, conditioners, lotions and soap. I have searched for years and have finally found products I love!
