Wellness Update

You guys! It’s been a forever since I’ve posted my workouts, meals etc. so I thought I would do a general “wellness update” post.

Here is me these days (in a nutshell):

What I’m eating:

I’ve been watching my macros a bit more since spring. I’m not counting every single carb, protein, or fat gram because I’ve gotten pretty good and realizing what a serving of carbs is so I count “servings” more than anything. I’ve been getting about 3 servings of carbs most workout days (4 if it’s leg day, 2 if it’s a rest day) as well as 6-7 servings of protein and unlimited veggies because they are the best! A serving of protein is about a palm size of meat (not a huge 16 oz steak) 😉 I’ve been sticking to lean animal protein for the most part so that I don’t feel the need to count fat and I can have some almond butter when I’m craving it without counting fat grams carefully, yet I’m still able to hit my goals. This is my way of “tightening up” my nutrition after a very relaxed winter.

I like to have a little more fat on me in the winter otherwise I freeze! In the spring/summer I like to shed some of that “insulation” since it’s just not needed. Fine tuning my nutrition a little has been enough to keep the ab definition I enjoy having in the warmer months.

I’ve been loving my favorite zucchini turkey meatballs (2 of them are a serving of protein for me) now that my garden is starting to pop up lots of zucchini. I’ve also been obsessed with these strawberry rhubarb bars now that we have a rhubarb plant in our backyard. Yum!! These have been my weekend treat whenever we host.

My workouts:

I’ve been working out 5-6 days a week. This summer I dropped to 5 days most weeks. I am enjoying the extra day off to spend more time getting things done and lounging by the pool with the kiddos when the weather is perfect before we start school again in September. I lift 5 days and walk for my cardio (about 3 miles 5-6 days a week) just to relax. I have enjoyed a break from running lately. I’m sure I will get back to it one of these days but for now I am loving the peaceful moments I’ve had just taking nice long walks.

What I’m reading:

I’m trying to make a point to read for enjoyment more these days…. especially on lazy Sundays. I’m currently reading “Brave Learner” in preparation for school. I’m also reading “The Choice: Embrace the Impossible” which is an incredible read about having courage in the worst of times. I’m just over half way through it but I highly recommend it.

How I’m feeling:

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t stressed. We were finally feeling pretty settled into our new home until we had some water damage in the basement. That has been a bit of a financial hit as well as quite stressful (all the clean up and losing our newly finished basement carpet).

My daily quiet times have been crucial in keeping my thoughts focused on heavenly things. It’s easy to get wrapped up in this home. I think part of it is the emotional attachment I have to our home, our safe haven, our place of peace and rest and relaxation. But I also know that it’s “just” a home and we have our family and our health and my God is good… always.

I’ve also been doing yoga at least once a day if not twice. I like to stretch really well after a workout and right before bed. I’m SUPER close to being able to do the splits (something I have been slowly working on for over a year now… maybe 2). Also, “rolling out” each night with my foam roller and tiger tail (this thing is heaven!) has been helpful in getting a better nights sleep.

What I’ve been diffusing:

I’ve been diffusing purify a lot lately! I’ve been dog sitting most weekends this summer and when I diffuse this oil my house smells SO much cleaner! I also sprinkle a little purify on the floor around the toilet when I mop when cleaning the bathrooms. It’s great in the laundry as well.

That sums up a little bit about what I’ve been up to “wellness wise”. Feel free to comment or ask questions in the comment section below. I’d love to hear how you are doing.
